The assessment engine behind repeatable consulting

AptitudeIQ captures the logic that usually lives in a consultant's workshop notes and spreadsheets. It presents every participant with a guided assessment, calculates results consistently, and turns responses into dashboards and deliverables as soon as the assessment is complete.

Structured & repeatable

Every assessment follows a consistent competency framework, so results are comparable across teams, functions, and review cycles — not one-off opinions.

Scored & explainable

Competencies are scored 0–5 and averaged into a capability score and maturity level, each backed by written findings that explain the "why" behind the number.

Actionable & costed

Each report closes with a short- and long-term roadmap plus a financial impact and ROI view — turning a maturity score into a fundable improvement plan.

Beyond the manual current-state assessment

Spend less time assembling results. More time advising what comes next.

AptitudeIQ productizes the repeatable parts of an assessment while keeping interpretation, facilitation, and transformation planning in expert hands.

How every assessment is scored

Five capability dimensions

Whatever the assessment, AptitudeIQ examines the same five dimensions of capability. Looking across all five is what separates "we bought a tool" from "we built a capability."

People

Skills, roles, training, and data literacy — whether the right people can do the right things with data.

Process

Documented, standardized, and consistently followed ways of working across teams and departments.

Technology

The platforms, tools, and integrations that enable data to be managed, shared, and used effectively.

Strategy

Alignment between data initiatives and business objectives, with leadership support and a long-term plan.

Standards

Consistent, well-applied standards for how data is stored, described, managed, and shared organization-wide.

Rolled into one score

Dimension scores combine into a capability score and an overall maturity level — a shared language leadership can rally around.

The maturity model

Six levels, from Unaware to Strategic

The AptitudeIQ Capability Assessment Framework follows a structured six-level maturity model that measures how well an organization manages its data capabilities — and how deeply those capabilities are embedded into day-to-day operations. Scores map onto named levels so everyone, from analysts to the board, reads the result the same way.

The six AptitudeIQ maturity levels — 0 Unaware, 1 Aware, 2 Opportunistic, 3 Practiced, 4 Operational, 5 Strategic — mapped as camps on a climb up Mount Everest
Each level is a camp on the climb. Organizations grow and stabilize at each camp before advancing to the next.

The climb is the destination

To illustrate the journey of capability maturity, AptitudeIQ uses the analogy of climbing Mount Everest, where each level represents a camp along the climb. The key takeaway: organizations must grow and stabilize at each level before advancing to the next.

The journey itself — all the challenges, adjustments, and growth opportunities encountered along the way — is the true destination.

0

Unaware

Data capabilities are not recognized or managed; practices are ad hoc and depend on chance rather than intent.

1

Aware

The organization recognizes the need to improve, but efforts are isolated, undocumented, and reliant on individuals.

2

Opportunistic

Sporadic implementation with some documented practice, but lacking standard frameworks and cross-functional alignment.

3

Practiced

Standardized, documented practices are applied consistently across teams and actively followed day to day.

4

Operational

Capabilities are measured, managed, and embedded into operations, with data used proactively across the organization.

5

Strategic

A self-reinforcing capability that is integrated into strategy and drives measurable, lasting business advantage.

Flexible scope

Assess at whatever level the decision lives

Run the same assessment for a small team or roll it up across the enterprise — and compare results between them.

Team

A single working team

Group

A group of related teams

Function

A business function

Business Unit

An entire BU or division

Organization

The whole enterprise

FAQ

Common questions

What exactly does AptitudeIQ measure?

AptitudeIQ measures capability maturity. Each assessment scores a set of competencies on a 0–5 scale across five dimensions — People, Process, Technology, Strategy, and Standards — and rolls those into a capability score and an overall maturity level.

What assessments are available today?

Two packs ship today: the FAIR Data assessment (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reusability) and the Data Management assessment (Data Governance, Data Quality, Master Data Management, Metadata Management, Data Architecture, Reference Data Management, and Information Lifecycle Management). The platform also supports building custom assessments for other capabilities and industries.

Can I run just one area instead of a whole suite?

Yes. The Data Management assessment can be taken as a full suite for a single rolled-up score, or as an individual single-area assessment — for example, Data Quality on its own.

Who can be assessed?

Any scope you choose: a single team, a group of teams, a business function, a business unit, or an entire organization. Running the same assessment at different scopes lets you compare maturity across the business.

What do I get at the end?

A detailed report with key findings, dimension insights, and an overall maturity level, followed by short- and long-term roadmap recommendations and a financial impact and ROI analysis.
